Kitchen sinks – which one to choose: QUIZ

Equipping your kitchen?

You are probably quite surprised at the abundance of the market.

You can get a headache when making decisions - so many different types of kitchens, appliances, sinks, kitchen fittings ...

We want to make it at least a little easier for you to choose, so we have put together a simple quiz for you to find your perfect sink with just a few clicks, without having to browse all the variety offered by the Alveus website.

The fact is that each of us is a different person and that some of us spend hours and hours comparing different products, while others do not want to waste time making choices.

Are you among the latter? Then the quiz below is just right for you.

Please select one answer for each question. The letter before each answer, which gets the highest score, will tell you which family of sinks is best for you.

1. What type of material would you choose?

What is the most important feature of a sink to you: appearance or practicality? What is most important about the sink material?

A) Eternal elegance, metallic shine, extreme durability.

B) Natural colours, strength and scratch resistance.

C) Elegant and unique appearance, but lower durability

D) Luxurious appearance, strength, durability, long life and prestigious colours.

2. Which sink colour is right for your kitchen?

With the colour of the sink, you can completely change the appearance of the kitchen.

You can choose flashy, calm, contrasting kitchen colours, graphics of your choice ...

In fact, almost every colour you can think of.

Would you choose a classic - forever shiny stainless steel?

With granite composite textures, would you turn to earthy shades of nature?

Would you release wild energy with any colour or image of a glass sink, or combine different materials and colours?

A) The shine you can't resist, a classical stainless steel colour.

B) Brown, sandy, anthracite, polar white, reddish - colours that will turn your kitchen into a   natural oasis. The natural and organic are "in”, so you can't make it wrong.

C) Is your personality possibly wild, bold, you love strong colours such as vibrant yellow, red, green, black, snow-white - or perhaps you would choose the right graphic or image on the draining surface of the sink?

D) Prestigious colours that will fascinate you: gold, anthracite, copper or gold with a pink hint (copper).

3. Cleaning

We certainly cannot avoid regular cleaning in the kitchen. So, why choose the kind of material that is more difficult to clean when another material is more appropriate for your lifestyle?

How often do you really get the kitchen towel in your hands? When choosing a sink, truthfulness pays off!

A) Easy cleaning, after using only wipe with a soft cloth to erase the water drops. Thoroughly clean with a polish only once a month to maintain shine.

B) Depending on the colour chosen, which is easy to clean, traces of water are not seen, with lighter shades more care must be taken with stubborn stains (for example pumpkin oil, blueberries, coffee…)

C) Easy cleaning, after using only wipe with a soft cloth. In the case of black colour, more care must be taken to prevent the appearance of dried drops.

D) After use, only wipe with a soft cloth to remove traces of water to prevent scale. Periodic polishing is recommended.

Count the number of letters before each chosen answer and see which letter got the highest score? So, you will find out which family of sinks works best for you.  Now you should just choose the right sink shape for your kitchen and you will soon be cooking and enjoying it!

If you have the largest score of answers A:

Your favourite sink material - stainless steel.

Stainless steel has excellent properties: it is high quality, smooth finish, the basins are available in different lengths and different sizes, classic or modern in shape, with large drains for quick drainage of water and even with a push-button sink drain.

Stainless steel is also hygienically impeccable and easy to clean, can be combined with any kitchen taps, it can be fully recycled and is always fashionable.

If you have the largest score of B answers:

Granite composite sinks are perfect for you.

Granite composite is composed of 80% of the dust particles of one of the hardest elements on Earth - granite - and composite mixtures that combine to form an extremely durable, resilient and beautiful material that you won't get tired of.

With the added glitter, the granite sink is extremely beautiful and decorative in the kitchen.

Compared to stainless steel, water drops falling onto the granite do not bounce and for that reason do not produce so much noise. It also does not need to be wiped clean after every use; periodic cleaning will be sufficient. However, with lighter shades, keep an eye on the traces of dark-coloured dishes and stubborn stains, as they can be seen if not cleaned immediately.

If you have the largest score of C answers:

You will be impressed by the glass sinks.

Alveus offers you the option of ordering glass sinks with graphics (picture) or colour as you wish.

It will give you the sink completely to your taste.

Glass in the kitchen? No worries, tempered glass is extremely impact resistant.

If a really heavy dish or pot were to hit the edge, the glass could break (but never burst apart, as it has similar protection as the windscreen in a car), otherwise, it is resistant to scratches and other damage.

The sink is combined - the washbasin is made of stainless steel and the drainage is of tinted tempered glass.

You already have a shortlist of the sink families. In the next step, consider 2 more, very important features.

The width and size of the cabinet

The size of the cabinet, in which you will install the sink, is very important because it is exactly the width that matters when choosing - a smaller sink can be installed in a wider cabinet, but not vice versa.

  • Narrow cabinet 400–500 mm.
  • Standard cabinet 600 mm.
  • Wide cabinet 800–900 mm.
  • Corner cabinet.

Sink mounting types

There are different techniques of kitchen sinks mounting - in layman's terms, it means how your sink fits into the kitchen counter - whether it is mounted on it and therefore raised, or fully aligned with the kitchen counter, or has only a thin, almost imperceptible edge above the counter, or it is installed under the counter so that the edge of the counter covers it. Which one would you choose?
